Enchanting hike to the Walleralm

The heat of midsummer is over. The air in the shade has already become noticeably cooler, but the sun in Söll still has power! A glance at the landscape reveals the first harbingers of autumn. The ideal time for hiking and discovering nature in our beautiful surroundings has arrived! After you have enjoyed a restful night in your holiday apartment in the heart of Sölle and fortified yourself with our vital breakfast buffet, it’s time to head up into the mountains!

Head up the mountains and experience the diversity of nature

We at the Aparthotel Bergland holiday apartment Söll would like to introduce you to a particularly charming hiking route today: the hike to the Walleralm. This tour is one of the most beautiful circular hikes in the Wilder Kaiser region – our varied nature shows its best side with the idyllically situated Hintersteiner See lake, the green or autumn-colored forests and the blooming alpine meadows!

A few key data first:

  • The total duration of the hike is around 3 ¼ hours.
  • The distance to be covered is 9.2 km.
  • There are 380 meters of altitude to overcome.
  • The highest point of the tour is at 1,199 m above sea level.

Further information can be found in the detailed description of the Wilder Kaiser region.

Into the fun of nature …

Well equipped with suitable footwear and a rucksack, you start this delightful tour at Hintersteiner See near Scheffau. You can park your car here (please note that there is a charge for parking!), or alternatively you can easily reach the lake by hiking bus. Above the Seestüberl you will discover a secluded forest path (trail no. 45a), which soon leads into a wider hiking trail. The trail now descends briefly, but soon climbs again and you reach the flowering alpine meadows.

Let nature take effect on you

Let your gaze wander over the meadows and admire the diverse shapes and colors of the flowers. Perhaps you will discover the pretty silver thistles along the way? These flowers are protected – so picking them is prohibited! However, they are particularly popular as a photo motif!

So close to the mountain top

A few more steps and you can already enjoy the view of the Kreuzbichl summit cross! Now it’s time to hike uphill for a while until you reach a fork in the path. There are now 2 options here:

  • The first option takes you to the right – this is how you reach the small alpine village with the rustic alpine huts of the Kafma Alm, the Stöfflhütte and the Waller Alm, which is situated a little higher up.
  • The second option leads to the left along a steeper path through a rocky mountain landscape (walking time approx. 10 minutes) directly to the summit cross of the Kreuzbichl. Here you are at almost 1,200 m above sea level and have a magnificent view of the majestic mountain world of the Kaiser Mountains.

Quaint Walleralm & the way back

If your stomach starts to growl, the rustic Waller Alm invites you to stop for a bite to eat. We particularly recommend the popular “Pressknödel soup”, which the hut owners always prepare freshly together with Grandma Frieda. Strengthened with Tyrolean delicacies, you can then make your way back! At the beginning of the forest, take trail no. 45 to the right at the crossroads, which leads to the Maier snack station. Perhaps you fancy a little rest? From here, the trail leads you along the Hintersteiner See lake to the starting point of the hike, the parking lot. Enjoy the route along the mountain lake, admire the crystal-clear water and the reflection of the mountain peaks on the surface of the water! Our team at Aparthotel Bergland . holiday apartment Söll wishes all hikers a wonderful tour and would like to recommend the diverse photo motifs of this circular hike to all amateur photographers. The mountain lake, the flowering meadows, the summit cross, the rustic alpine huts and many scenic features, such as interesting root formations, invite you to take photos! Source:
