A highlight of the Tyrolean pre-Christmas period is the baked apple with marzipan. Enveloped in the sweet scent of cinnamon and roasted almonds, every afternoon during Advent becomes a small, festive moment of indulgence.
1. a brief history of the baked apple
In the Tyrolean mountains, where winter arrives with a sprinkling of snow and frosty air, the baked apple is deeply rooted in a long-standing tradition – including here at the Wilder Kaiser. For generations, families have been preparing this sweet, warming delicacy to brighten up the pre-Christmas period. The baked apple symbolizes warm Tyrolean hospitality and is often served as a sweet greeting to family and friends in winter.
2. health benefits of the baked apple
The baked apple not only scores points for its delicious taste, but also for its many health benefits. Apples are rich in essential nutrients such as vitamin C and fiber, which strengthen the immune system and aid digestion. They also provide natural antioxidants that help prevent chronic diseases. Baking makes the nutrients more accessible, while cinnamon and raisins contribute additional health-promoting properties.
3. our baked apple recipe tip
Ingredients for the baked apple with marzipan:
- 4 tart apples (e.g. Boskop)
- 100 g marzipan paste
- 2 tbsp soft butter
- 1 sachet of vanilla sugar
- 1 tbsp honey and ½ tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp raisins
- 3 tbsp rum (alternatively: apple juice and rum flavoring)
- 1 egg
- 100 g coarsely chopped almonds (briefly roasted)
- 1 tbsp cornflour / cornflour
Baked apple preparation:
- Prepare the raisins: Start by soaking the raisins in rum for that little something extra.
- Prepare the apples: Preheat the oven to 180°C. Wash the apples and remove the core.
- Mix the filling: Mix the coarsely sliced marzipan with the butter and vanilla sugar, stir in the egg and then add the honey, cinnamon, toasted almonds and cornflour.
- Fill the apples: Fill the mixture into the prepared apples.
- Bake: Bake the apples for about 25 minutes (for large baked apples). If the apples are slightly smaller, simply reduce the baking time by 2-3 minutes.
- Serve the baked apples warm with a delicious vanilla sauce and enjoy a piece of Tyrolean pre-Christmas magic wherever you are.
