Enjoy the winter – away from the slopes

What could be more wonderful than enjoying the snow-covered landscape on a beautiful winter’s day, feeling the power of the winter sun on your skin and hearing the snow crunch under your boots with every step? In addition to the popular activities of classic winter sports – alpine skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing – there are numerous other ways to spend your free time during the cold season. Whether winter hiking, snowshoeing, tobogganing, ice skating or horse-drawn sleigh rides, all of these promise winter fun! We at Bergland Söll, your holiday apartment Söll Wilder Kaiser, would like to give you a few tips for your vacation days in the Wilder Kaiser region!

Winter hiking

Immerse yourself in the wonderful winter landscape! The snow glistens mysteriously in the sun, the branches of the trees bear the weight of the snow. Take a moment and feel it for yourself – a very special tranquillity, an almost magical atmosphere defines nature in winter.
In the Wilder Kaiser region, there are many groomed winter trails to discover through sunny valleys and on the slopes of the Kaiser mountains. As part of the activity program of our Wilder Kaiser region, entertaining themed hikes are also offered, such as

  • the “schnapps hike” with a visit to a schnapps distillery and subsequent tasting. The way back is organized as a torchlight hike
  • The winter hike with goats: not only children love this hike and enjoy the company of the curious, friendly animals. Learn lots of interesting facts about the goats and experience for yourself what it’s like to be part of the herd.
  • Trekking with llamas: From the “llama farmer” – the Koglhof in Ellmau – the winter hiking trail leads out into the beautiful countryside! Each participant is allowed to lead their own llama! A special experience for all animal lovers!
  • A guided “Bergdoktor” winter hike to popular filming locations of the successful TV series completes the offer.
For more information and hiking tips, our team at Bergland Söll, holiday apartment Söll, will be happy to help you at any time.

Snowshoe hiking

Snowshoe hiking has been enjoying increasing popularity for several years now! Away from groomed trails and pistes, you can experience adventures in untouched nature on snowshoes. If you are venturing out on snowshoes for the first time, we recommend a guided snowshoe hike. Rental equipment and tips from a pro await you! The guided snowshoe hike “Schwendterdörfl” is particularly popular – an ideal introductory tour to familiarize yourself with the new sports equipment and make your first tracks in the snow! For those looking for something really special, we recommend the evening snowshoe hike: experience the unique magical atmosphere of nature at night.

Tobogganing

There are well-prepared toboggan runs for all our tobogganing enthusiasts – the Wilder Kaiser region is known as the Tyrolean “tobogganing hotspot”! The cable cars take you comfortably to the starting point. Some runs are also floodlit and provide special fun into the night with “moonlight tobogganing”! The “Hexenritt” toboggan run in Söll, where smoke and glowing, giggling witches accompany you, is an exciting experience for children! Toboggans are available for hire!

Ice skating and curling

Whether outdoors or indoors, several ice rinks invite you to skate. The popular ice penguins are available for your little ones to learn and practise, while the older ones might enjoy an ice hockey match. How about a mug of mulled wine and a game of curling?

Romantic carriage ride – horse-drawn sleigh

Have you always dreamed of gliding through the snow-covered landscape in a horse-drawn sleigh and marveling at nature? We offer individual rides – this will be a highlight of your holiday! With so much to choose from, everyone is sure to find their own personal vacation pleasure! A quick word on the right choice of clothing for winter sports:
An old saying goes:
“There is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothing!”
There is a grain of truth in these words. We recommend the so-called “onion look”! What does that mean? Several layers of clothing on top of each other make it possible to put on and take off clothes to adapt to the respective temperature and situation. Of course, we also recommend a rucksack to store your clothes. You should also always have a thermos flask of hot tea with you! We at Bergland Söll, your holiday apartment Wilder Kaiser, look forward to welcoming you and experiencing a wonderful winter with you!
